Senior Development Manager

Position Summary

OCEANA seeks a Senior Development Manager to lead our fundraising efforts in the UK. This is an exciting time at Oceana! We’re looking for someone to be part of our dynamic and forward looking global team.

The Senior Development Manager is a member of Oceana Europe’s fundraising team. S/he will work with the Senior Development Director and other senior staff to articulate Oceana’s major giving/fundraising strategies and will be responsible for overseeing their implementation to increase revenue from existing and new major donors. To fulfill this role the incumbent will acquire an in-depth and intimate knowledge of Oceana’s donor universe, major donors and prospects and manage the process of upgrading donors to higher giving levels. She/he will work cooperatively with Oceana staff across the institution. The Senior Manager will lead efforts to build Oceana’s pipeline of donors and will manage the pipeline and workflow of the major gifts program. The incumbent will lead the development of proposals and reports for major donors and draft other fundraising-related correspondence and communication.

 

Major Responsibilities

Under the supervision of and close collaboration with the Senior Development Director based in Madrid, develop and execute a strategy and a fundraising target for Oceana’s international fundraising with foundations, major donors, high net worth individuals and innovative financing in the United Kingdom.

  • Identify, qualify, cultivate, and solicit a portfolio of major donors in the United Kingdom.
  • Develop a coherent stewardship programme for UK-based donors.
  • Conduct and oversee research to identify new donors and ways to upgrade existing donors.
  • Work with the Director and other leaders to implement upgrade strategies.
  • Successfully develop and manage High Net Worth Individuals (HNWI) giving circles.
  • Coordinate team workflow and priorities.
  • Liaise with policy and advocacy, research and expedition, administration and communications colleagues to ensure that funding packages and donor reports are accurate and support maximizing long term fundraising potential.
  • Represent Oceana at organizational and external events as appropriate. This includes donor and prospect meetings, cultivation events, dinners and galas, professional industry gatherings, and speaking engagements.

Position Qualifications and Experience

  • A university degree and a significant experience in fundraising or related stakeholder relations work with at least three years at a senior level or an equivalent combination of education or experience.
  • Demonstrable track record of success in fundraising.
  • Experience working in environmental and/or marine conservation is an asset.

Additional information

This full-time position is expected to start as soon as possible.  We offer a two years contract.

Oceana offers a competitive annual salary in the range of £50,000, commensurate with experience.  

The work will be carried-out in close cooperation with other Oceana staff in the Madrid, Copenhagen and Brussels offices.

The position will be based in Central London and conditions are according to UK employment legislation; hence the position is open solely to persons with the right to work in the United Kingdom.
