Vice President, Oceana Mexico

Oceana seeks to preserve and restore the bounty of the ocean as a source for wild-caught fish and preserve the marine ecosystem for our and future generations. Around the world, Oceana works to enable policies that protect ocean resources, which are important for the economy, jobs, families, and communities. Our campaigns seek to save the ocean, so that the ocean can feed the world. We are seeking a dynamic, driven Vice President to lead our policy change efforts in Mexico.

Since 2001, Oceana has achieved dozens of concrete policy victories for coastal communities, marine life and critical ecosystems all over the world. We have dramatically improved the productivity of fisheries by applying science-based catch limits, increasing transparency in government decisions and protecting millions of square kilometers of sensitive habitats from pollution and other destructive activities. Our victories represent a new hope for the world's oceans.

We accomplished these goals by setting clear and measurable policy goals; engaging in fact-based advocacy; proposing practical solutions; communicating clearly with the public and stakeholders; and working with allies.

The Vice President of Oceana’s Mexico’s office will lead Oceana’s on-going campaigns and help define new ones.  He or she will lead a team with skills in science, law, policy, outreach, and communications to accomplish Oceana Mexico’s mission.  Leadership includes recruiting talented staff, helping them succeed as a team, delegating with clarity, and advancing their professional development.  The Vice President keeps the office focused on campaign goals and leads the team in adjusting tactics to achieve them. The Mexico Vice President serves as a compelling external spokesperson for Oceana reaching policy makers and the public.

The Mexico Vice President serves on the senior staff executive committee for Oceana internationally. Oceana has offices in 10 countries, which account for almost 40 percent of the world’s wild-caught fish landings.

He or she must be able to articulate a vision, identify strategic opportunities, and advance them through a range of tactics.
