Campaign Organizer - Climate & Energy Campaign

Oceana’s campaigns are directed at achieving measurable policy changes to prevent the irreversible collapse of ocean life. Results are achieved through science, law, advocacy, organizing public support, and communications.

The position is responsible for implementing campaigns on the ground in Florida to prevent the expansion of offshore oil and gas drilling, promote action on climate change in local and national forums, and build public engagement for the Climate and Energy campaign (in addition to other Oceana campaigns as needs arise). With direction from the Campaign Manager, you will execute a campaign plan and carry out the tasks necessary to meet campaign objectives, track timelines and report on progress. This position requires initiative and an ability to work on one’s own to meet deadlines and accomplish tasks, while managing a varied and high volume workload.
Principal duties and responsibilities include:
  • Build a broad effective campaign including, but not limited to: grassroots coalition building, earned and paid media acquisition, legislative advocacy, communicating science, fostering public engagement and repeat volunteerism, and developing a self-sustaining and continuing foundation of support for Oceana’s work.
  • Execute the campaign in conjunction with a team of professionals. This will include working with other field staff, volunteers and online activists, legislative and communications professionals, vendors, consultants and others.
  • Regularly report on progress of the campaign, and lead the charge for overcoming obstacles to ensure goals and objectives are met.
  • Perform additional duties as needed and/or assigned.

 

Qualifications
  • Preferably 2 years of campaign experience, including engaging volunteers and building a foundation of support for a policy outcome.
  • Demonstrated success building and cultivating new relationships in a way that persuades individuals to support the organization’s agenda and generates measurable results.
  • A proven track record in grassroots field organizing and public speaking.
  • Experience in coordinating media relations.
  • A track record of being detail-oriented, with excellent organizational skills and follow-through.
  • Demonstrated initiative to self-motivate, work with diverse communities, serve as a team leader, and achieve Oceana’s goals.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to multi-task.
  • Computer literacy with Microsoft Office applications, proficiency with Salesforce.com (or other CRMs) a plus.
  • An ability to work well with others, collaborative and good-natured.
  • Willing to relocate to Florida (preferably central), if not in the area already.
  • A valid U.S. Drivers’ License and desire/ability to travel throughout the region.
