Fisheries Intern

Oceana seeks a Fisheries Intern to work on the Save the Oceans Feed the World campaign team to provide credible research and polished writing regarding global fisheries, illegal fishing, biology, and economics in addition to other topics as needed. Candidates should have a strong background in both communication and quantitative skills such as working with spreadsheets and scientific literature reviews.

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review scientific literature to provide summaries and analysis
  • Gather information from databases across disciplines and relate them to one another in a cohesive manner
  • Write concise and clear messages from a vast amount of information
  • Communicate scientific data to a non-scientific audience
  • Assist with logistics, interviews and making cold calls
  • Display cross-cultural sensitivity in working with international collaborators

 

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, especially in Marine Science, Biology, Economics, International Affairs
  • Demonstrated interest in fisheries, economics or the environmental field
  • Organized working style and attention to detail
  • Adaptable to changing plans in a dynamic work environment
  • International or cross-cultural experience
  • Artistic eye for visual presentation of data
  • Spanish and Portuguese language skills preferred but not required
