Online Marketing Intern

Oceana is the largest international advocacy organization working solely to protect the world’s oceans. Oceana wins policy victories for the oceans using science-based campaigns.
Oceana is seeking a web marketing intern for our headquarters in Washington, DC. The intern will assist the editorial manager with updating the website, blog and social media, and improving Oceana’s presence in search engines. The intern will gain an understanding of how online marketing helps Oceana gain new online supporters and donors to help protect the oceans.
The intern will be assigned the following tasks:
- Contribute well-written, engaging content to the Oceana blog and website.
- Assist with our social media outreach including updating Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Flickr, LinkedIn and Pinterest
- Assist with outreach to relevant websites and blogs to build relationships and ultimately increase links back to oceana.org. The intern will track progress in acquiring new links and brainstorm creative ways to increase links to our site.
- Help maintain existing relationships with websites and blogs and encourage the use of Oceana’s target keywords.
- Assist with any other web marketing needs as they arise.
Education/Experience or Other Requirements:
1. Strong writing and verbal communications skills; especially writing for web.
2. Web savviness and curiosity about search engine optimization.
3. Experience using a content management system such as Drupal, Wordpress, etc.
4. Experience with HTML, CSS and Javascript a plus.
5. Familiarity with and passion for social media
6. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
7. Must be a self-motivated, self-starter, and team player able to meet deadlines, and have the ability to handle many tasks simultaneously with speed, accuracy, and courtesy.
8. Utmost professionalism via telephone and email.
9. Knowledge of Microsoft office suite software.
10. Previous non-profit experience a plus.
11. Interest in ocean conservation and Oceana’s work and victories.
Stipends are available. Oceana accepts interns who receive academic credit for their internship. Undergraduates, recent graduates, and graduate students are all encouraged to apply.
