Last Friday, more than 350 guests attended Oceana’s third annual SeaChange Summer Party in Laguna Beach, California, which raised over 1 million dollars for ocean conservation.

Jeff Bridges and Pierce Brosnan were the special guests of the evening, and other celebs in attendance included Morgan Freeman, Ted Danson, Sam Waterston, Diane Lane, Mark Paul Gosselaar, Eric Balfour and Kristin Bauer.

Bridges, who recently scored an Oscar for his role as country singer “Bad Blake” in “Crazy Heart,” gave a surprise performance. Afterwards he charmed the “Lebowski” fans in the audience by quipping, “Oceana abides.”

All in all, a fantastic night for ocean conservation.

Wear Blue for a National Ocean Policy

Last June, we cheered when President Obama created an Ocean Policy Task Force to develop the first ever national policy for our oceans, coasts and Great Lakes. From August through November the Task Force hosted six public hearings around the nation to gather public input.

The Task Force's final report to the President should be submitted near the end of this month, and to make our voices heard, a group of ocean conservation organizations has organized Wear Blue day next Wednesday, Jan. 13.

Find a Wear Blue event in your area, or if there isn't one, organize your own. You can also submit comments to the Task Force through mid-February.

Kristen Berry to be Honored at GQ Gentlemen's Ball

On Wednesday, OCYC Commodore Kristen Berry will represent Oceana as its honoree for the GQ Gentlemen's Ball. Berry is a long-time environmental advocate and professional sailor.

Adrian Grenier, Ashton Kutcher, Mark Wahlberg and Josh Duhamel will also be there as ambassadors for Oceana, UNICEF, The Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation and the Pat Tillman Foundation, respectively.

The Gentlemen's Fund initiative "raises support and awareness for issues that are essential to modern men and encourages men to become agents of change by contributing to charities that champion these causes."

Congratulations, Kristen!
