Marine Protected Areas: LIFE+ INDEMARES Project

The objective of the LIFE+ INDEMARES project is to contribute to the protection and sustainable use of the biodiversity in the Spanish seas through the identification of valuable areas for the Natura 2000 network. The actions will be implemented from the 1st January 2009 to the 31st December 2013. The budget foreseen is € 15, 4 millions. The European Commission funds the 50% of the project.

Coordinated by Fundación Biodiversidad, the project will follow a participatory approach including all the relevant institutions, NGOs and competent administrations in management, research and conservation on marine fields: Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environmental, the Spanish Institute of Oceanography (IEO), the Spanish Council for Scientific Research,  ALNITAK, la Coordinadora para el Estudio de los Mamíferos Marinos, OCEANA, la Sociedad para el Estudio de los Cetáceos en el Archipiélago Canario, SEO/BirdLife y WWF España
