The Dome Reef

The dome was originally built as a prop for the set of a French reality TV show. Although the show is now off the air, the ruins of the dome remain and provide shelter to schooling fish and other organisms. If you like tiny creatures then you're in for a treat, as this dive site is home to countless gobies and tube-dwelling blennies.

Points of Special Interest

1. The Dome - The dome is the metal structure at the center of this site. It has become an artificial reef that attracts schooling goatfish, grunts, tiny blennies and gobies

2. Spinyhead and secretary blennies - You can recognize the di erence between these two blennies by studying their heads as they poke out of their holes: spinyhead blennies have white snouts and a dark body, while secretary blennies have a white streak behind the eye and brown body bars

3. Yellow tube sponge and shortstripe gobies - By peeking inside the tubes of this sponge you may find the reclusive shortstripe goby

4. Schooling grunts and goatfish - By watching the orientation of their neighbour's stripes, these fish can keep themselves perfectly aligned with the rest of the school, allowing it to better move as a unit when avoiding predators

5. Nassau grouper zone - Nassau groupers are usually found individually, but gather in their thousands when they are ready to spawn

6. Stingray zone - Stingrays commonly feed in the sand here. Look for hungry bar jacks accompanying the ray as they look to snap up creatures disturbed by their friend

7. Flamingo tongue zone - Flamingo tongues live on soft corals, which they graze on for food

8. Sand Tilefish burrows - The slender, reef like sand tilefish is common in sandy areas. They rarely stray far from their shelter, a carefully constructed burrow in the sand
