Today, the Obama Administration announced its steps to expedite offshore wind development off the coasts of New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland and Virginia. Oceana, the largest international advocacy group working solely to protect the world’s oceans, applauded the advancement and released the following statement from senior campaign director Jacqueline Savitz:

“Today’s statement shows that the Administration is ‘walking the walk’ on offshore wind development, which is good news for businesses, job creation and the environment. We need to be making a shift from fossil fuels to clean energy – like offshore wind – as quickly as possible to protect our oceans from further damage. While we will be following this process closely to make sure that right whales and other marine animals are not harmed, we are confident that offshore wind and healthy ocean life are compatible. Today’s announcements signify a strong commitment by the Administration to expedite the transition to clean energy and finally reap the numerous economic and environmental benefits of offshore wind.”
