Administrative Director
Belize City, Belize
My name is Floyd Neal. I am a virtural babe in the marine conservation field, having just recently joined the staff of Oceana in Belize. Nevertheless, I have always had an affinity for nature and thought myself conscious of various environmental issues and the constant and ever-growing threat human activitiy poses to Mother Nature.
While I resided in Los Angeles, CA I was an avid fan of nature tv shows on Discover, PBS, Travel, etc, subscribed to National Geographic, and had membership in a number of environmental organizations such as Audubon, WWF and others.
I started my professional life in journalism then moved on to public service after I emigrated. Throughout the years I lived abroad, I tried to stay abreast of developments in Belize, visited and enjoyed the attractions and sites as often as I could and longed for the day I could return home. Happily, Oceana in Belize Vice President Audrey Matura-Shepherd afforded me that opportunity in March of 2011.
So here I am a newby to the environmental NGO Community with a chance to meaningfully impact Belize's development as Oceana in Belize steps up its campaign for a referendum on the key issue of a ban on oil exploration and drilling offshore and in its protected areas! Undoubtedly the challenge is daunting, given current laws & regulation, locally available expertise and resources. Nonetheless, with the right assistance and conditions, this is a challeng we can overcome.
