From Elementary school, Belizeans are taught how wonderful Belize's reef and sea. We take pride in saying, “Belize has the 2nd largest Barrier Reef in the World!"
Growing up, we have fond memories of family trips out to sea; visiting Caye Caulker, San Pedro or any of 200+ Cayes (Keys) dotting Belize’s shores. We enjoy our white-sand beaches, playing and swimming in aqua-green waters, eating deliciously seasoned whole-fried fish (with rice & beans and salad) and savouring mouth-watering, vibrant coloured ceviches made of shrimp, conch, lobster or a ‘mixto’ containing all three. We Belizeans enjoy our sea. We take pride in knowing it’s there and it’s ours but are we aware that, as infinite as it may seem, it is as the lands and visible forests are, an exhaustible resource? There is a global need for humanity to more deeply understand and value our seas and oceans and that need starts at home. This is why I joined Oceana.
While new to the Conservation scene, the calling to work for such good has been ever present and to now place one’s abilities to good purpose, is truly rewarding. Prior to Oceana, I worked in PR and Marketing for Pepsi (Belize) and Belize Electricity Limited, the country’s primary energy distribution company. I graduated from St. John’s College Junior College (Belize) with majors in Liberal Arts, Visual Arts and Graphic Design.
My goal is one with Oceana; to protect, conserve and sustainably use our oceans in a way which ensures that our children too, will have fond memories of the sea, as we do.
