In July, 450 people came out in Orange County, California, for the SeaChange Summer Party at the estate home of Bruce and Karen Cahill. The event, co-chaired by Valarie Whiting, Julie Hill and Ted Danson, raised a record
$850,000 to help protect the world's oceans.
The SeaChange Summer Party honored three conservationists: actor and board member of Conservation International, Harrison Ford; actor and Oceana board member Sam Waterston; and internationally-acclaimed
sustainability expert John Picard. The honorees received awards designed by renowned artist Dale Chihuly.
"We have done great things before in human history. We can do it again," said Ford in his acceptance speech. "Let's not let this award be an empty vessel - let's work for fundamental transformation - a real sea change in ocean policy."
The SeaChange Summer Party is the first annual Orange County event recognizing the importance of the oceans as a vital ecosystem and honoring those who are actively helping preserve its delicate habitats and wildlife.
