Oceana is working to ban offshore drilling, and we need your help.
Last year’s oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico was a wake up call. Offshore drilling will never be safe or clean, and if ever there was a time to get involved, this is it.
We get more done when we work together. Sign up here to volunteer for Oceana’s campaign to ban offshore oil drilling:
There are also many actions you can take on your own to help end offshore drilling. We suggest starting with the “Quick Three”, which can be done in less than 15 minutes (total!):
1. Sign our petition to stop offshore drilling.
2. Call your Senators and urge them to support a ban on offshore drilling and to oppose any bill that includes expanded offshore drilling.
3. Write your Senators and urge them to support a ban on offshore drilling and to oppose any bill that includes expanded offshore drilling (view our sample letter). Then send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject line “I wrote my Senators” to let us know, so we can keep a tally. Please include your state in the email.
Calling and writing decision-makers is a great way to influence policy decisions, but it is just the beginning.
Once you’re done with the Quick Three, you can deepen your involvement by writing letters to the editors of newspapers (LTEs), hosting get-togethers in your community to spur action, and helping with recruitment by circulating our petition, either online or face-to-face.
Thanks for your support and spread the word!
