Since 2006 Oceana has been investigating European Union shark fisheries and trade around the world. These investigations are an integral part of the campaign to conserve sharks.

Oceana Researchers visited harbors in Europe, Africa and South-America, where they talked to fishermen, scientists, processors and trade companies to document the current situation of European shark fisheries.

The results of these investigations led to several reports and a multitude of photographs. Since one photo says more than a thousand words, this section will give a good overview of the dire situation of sharks and the need to protect this top predator, crucial to maintaining the health and stability of ocean ecosystems.
