Oceana held its annual Partners Award Gala November 9 at the Esquire House in Los Angeles. The red carpet event honored individuals who have made outstanding contributions through their personal commitment to protecting our oceans.
"The Partners Award Gala is a night for celebrating Oceana's victories, and for thanking so many who have been generous and very far-sighted in their support for Oceana and the world's oceans," noted Andy Sharpless, Oceana CEO.
2006 Partners Award Honorees included actor Pierce Brosnan and his wife, Keely Shaye Smith, ABC Entertainment president Stephen McPherson, Annett Wolf, president of PR firm Wolf-Kasteler & Associates. Filmmaker James Cameron, was the 2006 Ted Danson Ocean Hero Award Recipient.
Tiffany & Company donated crystal wave cut awards that were presented to the honorees by leading entertainers including Ted Danson, Nicolas Cage, Salma Hayek, Ron Meyer and Jamie Lee Curtis.
The gala raised close to $500,000 and included a live and silent auction as well as a VIP reception. The main item of the live auction was a 2007 Lexus GS 450 hybrid that was donated by Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A., Inc. with all proceeds going to Oceana.
"Our marine environments are in trouble and these contributions will help us advance our campaigns and win meaningful victories in our fight to save the oceans," said Dana DuBose, Director of Oceana's Southern California office.
The Oceana Partners Award was established in 1994 by the American Oceans Campaign. Previous honorees include Brian Grazer, Ron Howard, U.S. Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, former president Bill Clinton, entrepreneur, environmentalist and lifelong sailor Ted Turner; entertainer/activist Ted Danson (founder of American Oceans Campaign), Christopher Reeve, Don Henley, and Sting; and entertainment industry leaders/environmental stewards Alan Horn, Michael King; and Sir John Browne of British Petroleum.
