Alison Johnson

Southeast Campaign Manager
Oceana Staff

Alison joined Oceana in 2016 as the Manager of the Responsible Fishing Campaign for the Gulf of Mexico and Southeastern United States.

Alison was born in the UK, grew up in Canada and enjoyed summer vacations with her family on the shores of Florida’s gulf coast.  She loved the water and spent her youth learning everything she could about the Ocean and the animals that live there.  Her 16 year career as a marine biologist began after her first dive in the frigid waters of the Bay of Fundy and has taken her from the Yukon Territories to the Dry Tortugas.  She now resides in the Florida Keys and is also a certified Dive Master and USCG licensed Captain. Alison holds a bachelor’s degree in Marine Biology and a Master’s degree in fish biology from the University of New Brunswick.

Prior to joining Oceana, Alison was a biologist with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.  She managed the Reef Fish Visual Census program and has extensive experience working with fisheries regulators, scientists, non-profit groups, fishermen and other stakeholders on various fisheries research projects.  She has also managed terrestrial and inland waterways environmental conservation projects through her work with AMEC in Canada.
