After obtaining her Bachelor degree in Marine Biology at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, Valentina pursued a Masters degree in natural resources with a track in conservation and wildlife management at the same university.

As part of her postgraduate studies, she traveled to Cape Horn and Antarctica to draw blood samples from Rockhoppers, Gentoo and Adelie penguins, skuas and giant petrels, in order to study their evolutionary history and population biology as conservation tools.
