On Tuesday, June 8 – World Oceans Day – the U.S. Senate passed the Shark Fin Sales Elimination Act (S. 1106), a bill that would ban the buying and selling of shark fins in the United States.
The law is the first of its kind and is based on a 2019 proposal from Oceana and Plastic Oceans Chile.
