Senior Manager, International HR Business Partner
Are you an HR professional with global HR experience? Do you want to work for an organization that is dedicated to changing the globe for the better?
Oceana is making great progress in our mission of protecting and restoring the abundance of the oceans. We are looking for an experienced HR Business Partner (HRBP) to join our dedicated team working to protect our oceans, reduce the impact of climate change, feed a growing global population, and support the livelihood of fishers, their families, and their communities.
Oceana is the world’s largest nonprofit focused solely on restoring the resilience and abundance of the ocean. We achieve change by conducting specific, science-based campaigns with clear deadlines and measurable goals. Our focus is creating important policy changes in the countries that govern nearly one third of the world’s wild caught fish: Belize, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Peru, the Philippines, the USA, Canada, the UK and 27 EU countries.
The HRBP will work closely with in-country HR leads to implement Oceana’s HR programs at the local level. This generalist role will have a variety of responsibilities including recruiting, onboarding, performance management, employee relations, compensation, global benefits and on and offboarding. You will continuously build capacity of country leadership, managers, and staff on HR best practices. The position reports to the HR Operations Director and is hybrid in our DC headquarters office.
We are seeking a candidate with a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 7+ years progressive international HR generalist experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The candidate must have the ability to demonstrate self-awareness, cultural competency, inclusivity, and the proven ability to work with colleagues and stakeholders across diverse cultures and backgrounds. Experience with project management, policy implementation and training will ensure success in this role.
In addition, the candidate will need to be highly proficient in both spoken and written English. Spanish proficiency is preferred, but not required.
It is a plus if the candidate has a PHR certification (or willingness to become certified) and knowledge of employment law and best practices in the countries where Oceana works.
Oceana values a diverse workforce and welcomes people different from each other in many ways, including characteristics such as race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, and national origin. Oceana considers all qualified candidates and seeks to recruit from a diverse candidate pool.
Note: Oceana requires all employees to provide proof of vaccination against Covid. Accommodation for new hires who have disabilities that make the vaccine medically inadvisable or those who have a sincere religious belief that the vaccine is impermissible may contact firstname.lastname@example.org. Accommodation will be provided only as required by applicable law.
Oceana’s US offices have operated on a hybrid schedule and staff have been required to work from their assigned office on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. With agreement between the employee and their supervisor, the employee may work from home Monday and Friday. Oceana continually evaluates safety protocols and updates our practices on an ongoing basis based on the CDC community level color coding system of green, yellow and red.
