Nikka is an environmental lawyer with a Juris Doctor Degree.

Before joining Oceana she worked with other environmental lawyers actively advocating to defend community members against harrassment suits, and providing capacity-building on environmental laws, legal procedures, and available remedies to enforce environmental rights, conserve fisheries, and protect marine ecosystems. ​

Nikka previously led Oceana’s successful campaign to designate Panaon Island in Southern Leyte as a Protected Seascape under the Expanded National Integrated Protected Areas System (E-NIPAS) Act. She now leads efforts to promote fisheries transparencythrough Vessel Monitoring Measures. ​
