Sierrah joined Oceana as a Federal Policy Manager in August 2026.

Sierrah grew up in the mountains of North Carolina, but her scuba-diving parents had her strapped into scuba gear and underwater at a young age. After witnessing the incredible biodiversity of coral reefs, she was hooked. She earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a master’s degree in marine and environmental science from the University of the Virgin Islands. For her master’s research, she filled critical knowledge gaps in the life history of a commercially important fish species in the Caribbean to inform fisheries management throughout the region. Most recently, Sierrah worked as a John A. Knauss Marine Policy Fellow in the Office of Congressman Jared Huffman, where she covered a portfolio of ocean, coastal, and wildlife policy issues. She also brings a background in science education, community engagement, coastal restoration, and international climate diplomacy. Sierrah is thrilled to join Oceana’s Policy Team and continue advocating for science-based policies that support healthy, resilient oceans. Outside of work, you can find her doing yoga, hiking, exploring D.C., or on a weekend getaway to any swimmable body of water.
