Oceana Staff

Solemi Hernandez is a Naples, Florida–based community organizer with more than a decade of leadership in grassroots organizing and environmental advocacy.

Originally from Venezuela and a proud mother of two boys, she draws daily inspiration from her children and her deep connection to nature. Her work focuses on building political will for climate solutions, developing community leaders, and protecting Florida’s natural resources. She finds joy in bringing people together to advance inclusive, community-driven solutions that protect nature and strengthen communities. She has organized campaigns for clean water, climate resilience, and affordable clean energy, as well as rallies, conferences, and community recovery efforts following natural disasters. Prior to joining Oceana, Solemi served as a part-time Florida Organizer for Food & Water Watch. Before that, she spent six years as Southeast Regional Director for Citizens’ Climate Lobby, where she mobilized volunteers across five states and represented the organization at four United Nations Climate Conferences, working on civic engagement and public participation. A graduate of Florida Gulf Coast University with a degree in Political Science, she is passionate about empowering people to take action and become effective advocates. Solemi enjoys exploring Florida’s wild places, paddleboarding, hammocking, and spending quality time with family and friends. A quote that grounds her work and approach is from Dolores Huerta: “Every moment is an organizing opportunity, every person a potential activist, and every minute a chance to change the world.”
