When Fiona Lewis moved to Washington, D.C., she was surprised to discover overfished and even endangered species for sale in the city’s fish counters. Finding it tough to source fish that lived up to their sustainability standards, Lewis and her husband Ben decided to take matters into their own hands. In 2014, they opened the District Fishwife, a fish market in D.C.’s Union Market that only serves seafood from well-managed fisheries.
