First dives on the Gorringe Bank

BY: Oceana

The dip has been 500 metres on an arenoso-detritico background. Little different. We found many solitary corals range (Flabellum work boots), some several fishes, a stripe, sea-urchins, crinoids and many mackerel (Scomber japonicus) dead. It seems as if they had done a discard.

Surface had many Petrels, especially that of Leach (Storm petrel), supposed Shearwaters (Puffinus puffinus), a couple of pay it (Stercorarius skua) and Sabine’s Gull (Larus sabini).

We make two dives more, less depth. We were documenting the top 150 and 90 metres, and – as expected – we found black coral forest of kelp up to depth. The most spectacular were the sand banks making balls and figures.

The evening we anchored a couple of traps that the researchers of the University brought, but have only been hermits.
