As Field Representative for Oceana in the Carolinas, Michelle provides essential support for strategic campaigns to reduce plastic pollution, prevent the expansion of offshore drilling, defend the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act, and protect key marine species such as the North Atlantic right whale.
She possesses a background in advocacy and stakeholder engagement and is equipped to mobilize communities around ocean conservation issues. Michelle effectively translates complex policy discussions into accessible information for diverse audiences, ensuring all voices are heard in the fight for sustainable ocean practices. As a proud North Carolinian, she has dedicated her career to advocating for coastal and ocean environmental protections and facilitating political advocacy campaigns.
Before joining Oceana, Michelle served as an environmental consultant focused on supporting the responsible development of offshore wind. She holds a master’s degree in Coastal and Ocean Policy from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, and various continuing education certificates.
Michelle and her family love spending time at the beach with their two dogs, where they relish the atmosphere of coastal living. She enjoys kayaking or paddle boarding along the marsh. As an avid reader, she frequently dives into books that enhance her understanding of environmental issues, enriching her approach to advocacy. She is committed to fostering healthy ocean ecosystems and works to make a lasting impact through her work at Oceana.
