BP’s Deepwater Horizon oil spill was worse than originally thought, study shows
The worst oil spill in U.S. history was actually 30% larger than previously estimated, according to a new study. It’s been 10 years since the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill disaster, and new research shows that satellite data used to monitor the size of the spill missed the full scope of the disaster.
Oceana released a new report examining the cause and impacts of the catastrophe; how those impacts are still being felt today; and whether the disaster changed the government and industry’s approach to offshore drilling.
You can help. Tell your members of the U.S. Congress to include provisions to protect our coast from new offshore drilling and future oil spills in the fiscal year 2021 spending bill.
