‘Now is time to stand up and be counted’: Sam Waterston’s inspiring speech will fire you up for the oceans
BY: Matt Littlejohn
Acclaimed actor, producer and director Sam Waterston is a champion for the oceans. He’s called out the dangers of offshore oil on CNN, told senators about the threat of ocean acidification and gone after reckless fishing in the pages of New England’s newspapers.
He’s a major supporter of Oceana, as a donor and board member, a celebrity spokesperson, a congressional testifier, a mainstay at our events and one of the public faces of our organization.
So when Sam took the stage at Oceana’s New York Gala in October, we, understandably, expected a great speech. He blew us away. “If only fish could write,” he said, “they’d have some choice words.”
Choice words, indeed. We’re sharing Sam’s words with you, because they challenge us all to stand and fight for abundant oceans.
