Director of Finance and Administration

Want to make a difference for our oceans while supporting the team behind the mission? Oceana Canada is hiring a Director of Finance and Administration to help build and maintain the systems that power our ocean advocacy work.

In this leadership role, you will oversee finance, HR, administration, IT, and compliance for Oceana Canada’s operations. Reporting to the Executive Director, you’ll ensure our office runs smoothly, legally, and efficiently — aligned with Oceana’s values and strategic goals. You’ll lead budgeting, financial planning, reporting, internal controls, and HR operations while fostering a safe, inclusive, and collaborative work environment. From payroll and performance management to compliance with Canadian regulations and donor requirements, your leadership will be essential to our success.

Oceana Canada was established in 2015 and is part of the world’s largest advocacy group focused solely on ocean conservation. We have achieved measurable victories — from banning single-use plastics and ending the shark fin trade, to securing science-based rebuilding plans for depleted fish populations. Our team works collaboratively with government, Indigenous Peoples, civil society, and the public to rebuild healthy, abundant oceans in Canada and around the world.

The ideal candidate has 7+ years of experience in finance, HR, and operations, holds a recognized Canadian accounting designation, and has a strong understanding of not-for-profit regulations, payroll, and employment law in Canada. You’re an experienced leader, strategic thinker, and team player, with excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Oceana Canada works on a hybrid schedule, with in-office collaboration on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. This is a full-time permanent role based in Toronto, ON, offering a salary range of $125,000–$140,000 CAD annually, plus a comprehensive benefits package including paid time off, health, and dental coverage.

Oceana Canada is an equal opportunity employer. We welcome applicants of all backgrounds and are committed to fostering an inclusive, accessible work environment. Accommodations are available upon request for candidates taking part in all aspects of the selection process.

Apply by 5:00 p.m. ET on October 2, 2025 for best consideration. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, so early submission is encouraged.
