Engagement and Outreach Manager, Science & Strategy

Come join Oceana’s Science & Strategy department, led by its Chief Scientist and dedicated to fostering the organization’s scientific capacity and credibility. Play a critical role supporting Oceana’s work to secure policies that tackle the impacts of climate change, protect ocean habitats and wildlife, and safeguard coastal fishers, their families, and their communities.

In this role, you manage Science & Strategy’s engagement strategies with stakeholders on key issues including international fisheries management, transparency, climate resilience, and food security. You track and promote the work of Oceana experts, including through in-person events and the media. You produce and manage content development for outreach products such as policy briefs, factsheets, presentations, newsletters, and blogs. You coordinate with our global communications department on media outreach and the design and branding of Science & Strategy’s reports and social media assets. You manage two of our external-facing affinity groups, the Oceana Science Advisors and Friends of the Transparent Oceans Initiative.

You hold a bachelor’s degree or higher in international affairs, public policy, public relations, science communication, or related field and a minimum of five years of on-the-job related experience. You bring experience developing and implementing high-impact outreach and engagement strategies for advocacy campaigns and science-policy research groups. You have the ability to think creatively and produce communications materials, events, workshops, and other outputs for diverse international groups. Familiarity with science communications, ocean conservation, fisheries and marine policy, accountability & transparency in governance, equity and justice issues, and international relations is highly desired.

The Engagement and Outreach Manager reports to the Science & Strategy’s Senior Director and is based in Washington, D.C.  This role requires flexibility to work with staff and partners across time zones and international borders. Some international travel is anticipated. This is a full-time, exempt position

The salary range for this position is $72,000 – $85,000 annually.

Oceana’s US offices have operated on a hybrid schedule and staff have been required to work from their assigned office on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. With agreement between the employee and their supervisor, the employee may work from home on Monday and Friday.
