Deanna joined Oceana in 2025 to lead internal and executive communications.

Based at Oceana’s Washington, DC headquarters, she brings a deep commitment to ocean conservation, shaped by her upbringing on the California coast and years spent living on some of the best islands in the world — making this role a dream come true.

Before joining Oceana, Deanna worked with research organizations focused on forestry and food security, and consulted for various UN agencies and international organizations as a communications advisor. Her diverse professional background spans journalism, academia, and international development, and she brings a blend of storytelling, strategic thinking, and people-centered communication to her work.

Deanna has held positions with The Jakarta Post, the Center for International Forestry Research, and the World Trade Organization, and has degrees from UC Berkeley and Columbia. She has published widely on Indonesia, and speaks Indonesian.
