Maisie is the Senior Director for Global Transparency at Oceana, based in Washington, DC.
She works across Oceana’s country offices to shape global fisheries governance strategies and drive coordinated transparency campaigns worldwide.
Maisie first joined Oceana in 2022 as the first Director of the Coalition for Fisheries Transparency. She brings nearly 20 years of experience working with governments, international organizations, and NGOs on fisheries transparency, maritime security, ocean governance, and coastal development, with particular expertise in Sub-Saharan Africa. Her career has included research, program development, and advisory work for several UN agencies and other international institutions. She previously served as a member of the International Board of the Fisheries Transparency Initiative and is currently a non-resident Senior Fellow at the Atlantic Council’s Africa Center.
She holds an MA in International Studies from the Josef Korbel School of International Studies at the University of Denver and a BA from James Madison University, where she studied political science and anthropology.
Her connection to the ocean began with summers spent on the Outer Banks of North Carolina and continues to shape her commitment to ocean conservation today. In her free time, she can usually be found outdoors with her husband and two dogs; she is an avid traveler, hiker, snowboarder, and (aspiring) surfer.
