Maisie Pigeon is the Global Fisheries Transparency Coalition Director at Oceana.

An expert in maritime security and coastal development with a focus on Sub-Saharan Africa, Maisie is passionate about ocean governance and has previously consulted with the Global Maritime Crime Programme at the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, RUSI, and the International Maritime Organization. She has conducted research on issues including piracy and armed robbery at sea, illicit trades in drugs and wildlife products, irregular migration, funding sources for violent non-state actors, and illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing. Prior to her work in maritime and coastal stability, Maisie developed and implemented several social advocacy campaigns for NGOs focused on global health and international development. She has her MA in International Studies from the Josef Korbel School of International Studies at the University of Denver and she received her BA from James Madison University, where she studied political science, anthropology, and African studies. In her free time, Maisie can usually be found outdoors; she is an avid traveler, hiker, and snowboarder.
