Today, Oceana launched a new website which features, for the first time, online information and photos from leading reference publisher DK Publishing. Oceana.org’s new “Explore the Oceans” section offers comprehensive information about everything under the sea from sea lions to sea whips.

“The blue whale, the largest animal that ever lived on the planet, lives in our oceans right now,” said Andrew F. Sharpless, CEO of Oceana. “We believe the more people know about blue whales and other ocean creatures, the more likely they will be to take action to help protect our amazing and diverse marine world.”

Oceana sought to create a comprehensive and trusted source of online information about the oceans. DK has published definitive works with the Smithsonian and other educational institutions. The information available on the new Oceana.org comes from DK’s “Ocean: The World’s Last Wilderness Revealed.” It is the first time the content has been made available online.

“We are thrilled that our content is now available through Oceana’s website,” said DK CEO Andrew Phillips. “We believe our high quality illustrated approach and Oceana’s emphasis on sound science is a good match.”

Oceana.org also provides viewers a map of the world with video content showing the “Special Places” that Oceana works to protect, including Chilean Patagonia, the Arctic and the Canary Islands. The website features a streamlined design and an easy-to-navigate format for visitors to find information on all of the organization’s campaigns, scientific reports, newsletters, exclusive videos, photographs and Oceana’s blog.
