Football star Robert Lewandowski has joined Oceana in a call to protect and restore the ocean. An ocean lover himself, the Polish international striker has shared what the sea means to him, making a plea for everyone to join the mission to restore the health of the ocean. The marine conservation organisation celebrates Lewandowski’s appeal, which calls on society to make the right decisions and work together to address a challenge of global importance.

“The ocean means something different for everyone. I am fortunate to live by the Mediterranean, and having the sea close by gives me a sense of belonging anywhere I travel. The ocean may be your way of life, the place where you relax, or the source of the food you eat, but we all depend on it. If we want to pass a healthy ocean on to future generations, we need to act now, together, to protect it”, said Robert Lewandowski.

Oceana campaigns to bring the ocean back to its former levels of abundance. A restored, healthy, and abundant ocean can help fight climate change, sustain livelihoods, and feed more than 1 billion people a seafood meal every day, forever. Oceana’s advocacy is supported by scientific research and relies on citizens and allies to make decision-makers listen and ultimately achieve real change in the water.

“We are very grateful to Mr. Lewandowski for raising his voice for the ocean, and for highlighting its importance for each and everyone of us. His personal message comes at a critical time. The ocean is at a tipping point after decades of unsustainable activities that have damaged ecosystems and caused wildlife to decline. We need society to come together, now more than ever before, and with the will and courage to restore ocean health,” said Pascale Moehrle, Executive Director and Vice-President for Oceana in Europe.
