Oceana, celebra la consulta iniciada por la Comisión ya que considera necesario armonizar la normativa que contempla el uso de redes de deriva para la captura de especies altamente migratorias en Europa y por la flota Europea. La finalidad ha de ser asegurar que los medios de inspección y control de los Estados Miembros están dotados de herramientas legales claras e inequívocas que permitan la identificación de estas redes prohibidas de manera uniforme en todos los Estados Miembro así como la adopción de medidas de acuerdo con el Reglamento (EC) No.1005/20081 como actividades de pesca INDNR.
Paralelamente, la organización de conservación marina quiere señalar la existencia de redes de enmalle a la deriva aún hoy en la flota costera cuya actividad puede estar vulnerando la normativa existente. En particular, el empleo de artes para la captura de pequeños túnidos en aguas del Mediterráneo o la existencia de licencias para la pesca con redes de enmalle a la deriva en el Báltico.
