Climate change is causing Arctic sea ice to melt at an astounding rate, with 2020 experiencing the second-lowest level of Arctic sea ice cover since modern record-keeping started in the 1970s. These drastic changes can alter landscapes, disrupt food webs, and have deadly consequences for animals that thrive in icy waters, like the endangered bowhead whale.
