Miguel Rivas Soto
Habitat Campaign Director
Miguel’s main motivation is to make this world a better place for everyone by offering his skills as a scientist to the protection of the environments and nature, particularly the oceans.
Miguel Rivas has a PhD in biological sciences from the Institute of Ecology of the National Autonomous University of Mexico. Same university where he acquired a master’s degree in science and a diploma in science popularization. He has a great passion for the democratization of knowledge, with the goal that people can push decision makers to promote common well-being through solutions from the root of problems.
As director of the Habitats Campaign in Oceana Mexico, Miguel is seeking to influence public policy by safeguarding and protecting marine habitats, essential for the preservation of biodiversity and ecosystem services, to feed a world that is increasingly demanding of natural resources, which must be exploited in a sustainable way with future generations in mind.
